The school of 41 languages

In most schools these many of the pupils struggle to keep up with French lessons as they always seem to be so hard and to be fair, quite embarrassing most of the time especially when you have to speak out aloud in front of the class.

But imagine being in a school where there are pupils who speak forty one different languages including English, the Newbury School in East London is home to pupils from so many diverse backgrounds that they at least one pupil speaks fluently one of the forty one languages. This is a great opportunity for the other pupils to pick up a few phrases from these languages.

So while most school children are struggling along with French or German these kids are learning how to speak to their school friends in the native language, rather than just in English. Some people may say that this is wrong, but isn’t language a great thing to have? One of these phrases may help you out one of these days.
