Pupils to be taught about Islam
As the government attempts to prevent the rise of extremism in the UK, there has been a plan put in place where all pupils within the state education system will be taught about the values and traditions of Islam.
The Communities Secretary Hazel Blears has announced this scheme but no timetable has been laid out yet. The lessons will become part of the compulsory citizenship lessons that have become part of the changes to schooling in an attempt to try to educate all children into becoming good citizens for the future.
However, there has been a backlash from campaigners within the education system. They are warning that it may not be a good idea to give Islam precedence over the other faiths that are also practised with the UK.
