Spelling mistakes are ok

It seems that spelling mistakes are getting just a little bit too much for one university lecturer that he has now proposed that some common spelling mistakes should now be included into the English language.

Dr Ken Smith, senior lecturer in criminology at Buckinghamshire New University, has drawn up a list of these “Common” mistakes. He has said that these should become known as variant spellings.

However, this has not gone down well with those people who are considered as being English language purists, like Marie Clair, of the Plain English Campaign she insists that introducing these alternative ways of spelling could lead to chaos and anarchy, but only within the language itself.

Smith’s New Spellings
Febuary not February
Ignor not ignore
Truely not truly
Que or kew not queue
Opertunity not opportunity
Twelth not twelfth
Mispelt not misspelt
