200,000 kids spanked in US schools

There is a theory that beating kids in the home or at school just teaches them violence, which is why we look upon it in the way that we do now. However, this does not look like to be same in the US where it has been estimated that around 200,000 kids were disciplined at school last year.

These figures come from a report by Alice Farmer of the Human Rights Watch and the American Civil Liberties Union, where it was found that corporal punishment is still legal in twenty-three states and is regularly used in thirteen of them.

It is amazing that the US allows this to carry on, but they would probably say the same about some of the practices that we have here in the UK. Nevertheless, it is a well known fact that this sort of punishment does not achieve anything good; it just creates more problems down the line.
