Government to make further investment into education

While on visit to the Bristol Brunel Academy with Prime Minister Gordon Brown, the Education Secretary Ed Balls announced that the government are to make a further investment of £21 billion in the education system.

The Bristol Brunel Academy cost £24 million to build and is part of an already planned project to build up to 180 new or to refurbish existing buildings. These building projects are all due to be completed by the end of 2008.

By the year 2011 government spending in education would have grown by seven times that of what it was I 1997 when New Labour took over the government. Yet in order to take some of the glory away from them the opposition have stated that the current plans are way behind schedule. And went on to state that at the current rate, today’s children will be drawing their pensions by the time that the work has been completed. Pensions! They’d be lucky!
