University is not for everyone

Is there a status of going to university or are there students and families of students who are making the fact that their children have gone or are going to university making this into a status symbol?

This question arises every now and then where people it is where the children of parents are pushed into going into a profession or course that they do not really want to do, but they are following some sort of family tradition.

Then there are those students who go to the local university or college simply because it is close to home and therefore going to university is a matter of just learning rather than status.

The simple truth is that there could be system building where universities are struggling to fill their courses because students do not want to travel too far, this will force local institutions to change their courses in order to cater for these local students.
