Training days, a waste of time?

The teacher training day could be a thing of past, that’s what Dylan Wiliam, professor of education assessment will be telling the Headmasters and Headmistresses Conference in Bournemouth.

He believes that making pupils stay at home for an extra day, while the teaching staff are in the school catching up on all of the changes in teaching techniques and other things like policy changes etc, actually does no good at all.

What would be better is a “Weight Watchers” style of meeting, these would only use up around four hours per month, which is enough to catch up on the changes, but it can be easily put into the school working week and without all of the disruption.
