Students tracked by microchip

A school in South Yorkshire will be tracking the movements of their students because of microchips that have been placed into their school uniforms. The signal can be picked up by a RFID system where their movements can be tracked and the class attendance monitored as the entered each lesson.

What is so good about this? The kids can be monitored only if they are carrying that piece of uniform, do they wear all week and only have it cleaned at weekends? This appears to be yet another “Big Brother” type application that companies try to introduce by offering it free to schools, but what is really happening is the desensitisation of monitoring systems.

These kids will be so used to being tracked, that when the government decides to bring in ID cards and anything else that is brought in to keep tabs on us, nobody will mind.
