The price of private education

It’s hard to believe but there are hundreds of families struggling to keep their children at expensive private schools. And even though these families are having to take out two or three jobs, and in some cases borrow the money from banks etc. They still feel that the investment is well worth it.

According to the Independent School Council they estimate that around 24% of children who attend private schools actually come from postcode areas that are well known for having a below the national average for income.

The price for sending a child to private school will cost around £3000 per term for days, and for boarding that cost will more than double to around £7000, these fees do not include uniforms, sports kit & equipment and some expensive school trips mainly abroad. As most families have more than one child they could be looking at around £120,000 plus just to put their children through school.

This means that many families are living in virtual poverty and at the same time getting themselves into some serious debt in order to cover the costs.
