Some people may feel that Channel Four have got a thing about sex education, firstly there is the programme shown in the evening, which is supposed to educate the nation on all things to do with sex, however this series has been criticised for its content and early evening timeslot.

Therefore, Channel Four has learned their lesson, not really, because they are planning to launch a new sex education directed at teenagers, which is going to be aired on weekday mornings, which will go down well at school.

The series will cover contraception and sexually transmitted diseases over ten parts, there will also be light hearted clips from other TV shows. The channels management said that they are airing on the side of caution, but not matter what, there are bound to be complaints.

In a recent study of over a thousand men, nearly half of them forty eight per cent said that their male primary school teachers had a long lasted effect on their school life and beyond. The research had been carried out by ICM, for the Training and Development Agency, who are largely responsible for the training of teachers.

It has been found that this male figure can have a serious effect on how the child learns, this is especially so when the child comes from a one parent family.

Now there is call for more men to take up teaching, but in the year 2006/7, the amount of male teachers qualifying actually fell by one and half per cent. Therefore, there is to be a nationwide campaign to encourage men for all backgrounds to consider a career or career change to teaching.

A new watchdog has been launched with the aim of protecting children from what they are calling harmful internet content, this title will cover everything from cyber bullying and even violent video games.

The idea comes from The UK Council for Child Internet Safety (UKCCIS) that is made up of social networking websites and IT based companies.

The object of the scheme is to educate youngsters into recognising the dangers that lurk around the internet, and to establish a code of conduct for websites, this is especially directed at site where users upload content.

The strategy will:
Establish a public awareness safety campaign
Establish measures to protect children and young people, such as taking down illegal internet sites
Promote responsible advertising to children online
Establish voluntary codes of practice, with an examination of how websites handle videos or messages posted by users.

There have been some serious problems for the UK government over their choices for software partners. There are many stories around where various providers of these services have been given huge contracts only for them to run over budget or in some case not deliver.

Another problem came from the use of Microsoft in the countries schools, because of the licensing system that Microsoft use, this has become impractical for schools to use, but this leaves the education system with some serious problems.

However now there could be light at the end of the tunnel, as open source providers Novell UK and Sirius are now allowed access to the £80 million Software for Educational Institutions Framework, which basically means they are able to supply software to this sector from now on, whether this is going to happen is another matter.

The government have already been advised by the Academy of Medical Sciences, they recommended that these drugs could be introduced, but there is a need for strict regulation.

In move that it bound to create some problems, FutureLab have recommended that schools with pupils who come from poorer backgrounds or those who are falling behind the rest of the school, will need to be subsidised out of the school funds to enable them to keep the standards up.

It seems no matter what the government says, the class war is far from over in fact in places like Oxford it is turning into all out war.

Universities have been forced to take students from all backgrounds, this have meant the top of the range universities like those of Oxford and Cambridge have had to accept students from working class backgrounds, perish the thought.

However, they are fighting back now by saying that the students from the wrong side of the track are actually causing the universities standards to drop, which for them is totally unacceptable.

Clearly this is the sort of thing that belongs in a n age that has long past, yet no matter how much we try to right the balance of class, eventually it shows its hand. This just means that the class war never stopped it just went underground for a while.

With the new school year upon us, it is a bit late for parents to be considering what type of secondary school to send their children to, you would have thought that there was little or no choice as to what types of school are available, but you would be wrong.

Below is a list of the choices of school, which parents face:

Community Schools
Foundation Schools
Voluntary Controlled Schools
Voluntary Aided Schools
Specialist schools
Training schools
Independent Schools
City Technology Colleges
Academies
Maintained Special Schools
Non-Maintained Special Schools
Independent Special Schools

Apparently, England has the highest choice of schools for over thirty years according to the Department for Children, Families and Schools (DCFS).

The UK has always been an attractive option for foreign student to come over and earn a degree or study for some other qualification. However, in recent years the system that operated has been abused by some organisations that used it simply to allow foreigners to enter the country and then disappear.

In order to prevent this from happening in the future the government will be introducing some new rules the basics are below.

International students on completion of a PG or an UG degree in a shortage sector to work in the UK.
The new change does not require SEGS (Science & Engineering Scheme) to have a job offer at the time of application.
Student visas will become mandatory for all students to remain in the UK if studying.
The Home Office stated it is committed to introducing mandatory entry clearance for students as part of its points based system for managing immigration system to which students enter the UK.
Non-visa nationals who are already in the UK will also be able to switch into the student category without entry clearance as a student.
Students coming to the UK under a Tier 4 visa (student visa) will require a university or other qualified UK educational institution to sponsor them.
Foreign students have been historically allowed to work — 20 hours while school is in session and 40 hours during holidays
International students have an immigration options under new points based system. Once a student graduates from an eligible UK educational institution.
Foreign students will also be required to provide fingerprints and carry ID cards.
Foreign students taking courses longer than 12 months will be required to show that they possess sufficient funds to pay for their first year of student fees.
Alternatively, non-European Union students can apply under Tier 1 General.

For those who do not know, the Sex Education Show is Channel Four’s idea of introducing the entire family to the world of sex. This is supposed to be able to provide people with information and facts, which are, designed to education the general population.

However, putting this programme on at 8 pm was a mistake according the complaints that the broadcaster has received on the back of the first episode of the six part series.

To make things worse the series is supported by a website; this has similar content to the programme and can be accessed by children of any age.

This could be the tip of the iceberg when it comes to this programme and where it goes from here. Although naturally Channel Four has defended this programme insisting that, it offers the family an opportunity to discuss and understand sexual problems.
